Additional Learning Needs

at Treffos

At Treffos Independent School, we are committed to supporting each child in achieving their full potential. We provide a nurturing environment in which strong, supportive relationships are central to the development of a learning community where every individual feels valued and empowered.

Treffos seeks to identify and build upon each child’s strengths, celebrate individuality, and actively involve all pupils in their learning journey.

‘The school offers bespoke provision for the few pupils with additional learning needs (ALN). In response to the identified need, in-class support, one-to-one support, or the services of an external agency are provided. The progress of each individual is monitored closely and the additional provision adapted as required. As a result, these pupils make strong progress from their starting points.’

Our dedicated team is committed to delivering high-quality learning experiences that cater to a wide range of learning styles and individual needs. Through ongoing assessment and reflection, teachers regularly review, evaluate, and adapt their practice to ensure that learning remains engaging, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of their classes. This personalised approach enables all learners to be supported, challenged, and encouraged to achieve their full potential.

At times, some pupils may experience difficulties accessing aspects of the curriculum. In such cases, high-quality, differentiated support is provided within the classroom to ensure that all learners can participate fully and make progress. Teachers continually monitor and assess pupils' development, adapting provision to meet individual needs.

Where a pupil is not making expected progress despite classroom support, intervention may be implemented following a graduated approach. Some learners may require more structured and targeted support in addition to the provision ordinarily available to pupils of the same age.

In certain circumstances, the school may recommend further investigation to better understand a learner's needs, such as specialist screening or an assessment by an educational psychologist. Any recommendations for individual screening or assessment will be discussed with parents beforehand, and any associated costs will be the responsibility of parents.

The outcomes of screening or assessment may indicate that additional support is required, such as one-to-one intervention, small-group provision, or support from an external specialist. Where this is the case, the school will work closely with parents to identify the most appropriate provision. Any additional specialist support beyond the school's standard provision may incur separate costs.

All prospective pupils wishing to attend Treffos will be invited to meet with the Headteachers to determine whether the school is an appropriate setting for their needs. Parents are kindly requested to provide as much relevant information as possible in advance of this meeting, including school reports, formal assessments, and Individual Development Plans (IDPs) where applicable.

Please note that, in most cases, our provision is unable to accommodate pupils with an Individual Development Plan. If you would like to discuss whether Treffos is the right setting for your child, please contact the school to arrange an initial conversation.
